Hey Steve, I'll add "ART IN MOTION: Puppetry For The New Millenium" to my
list of possibilities. It's better than what I was coming up with
"Puppets; They're Really Keen"

you could call it "Being Preston Foerder", but I doubt anyone would sign
up.

I dunno... All of the fame and glamour that's associated with being
Preston Foerder might lure a lot of people. Or wait- am I thinking of
Andrew Periale?

Mark- Thank you for explaining what you meant. It was a semantic thing.
I was thinking inspiration as in "the original idea" not inspiration as
in "a higher plane." Yep, without the technique, it is difficult to
achieve that higher level of performance, except as you say, by accident.
At the same time, I think that learning a show by rote is dangerous.
The technique, and skill of the performer should be great enough, that
inspiration can change every aspect of the performance.

Speaking of which- allow me to kvetch about "Little Shop of Horrors"
again. We just had our first audience tonight and I'm going a little
crazy. The woman who is my voice (for those who don't know, the puppet
and the speaking/singing voice are performed by two separate performers
because of the weight of the plant) anyway, this woman is wildly
inconsistant. I've explained, the director has explained and still she
can't seem to understand. Now, I'm a decent enough puppeteer, that if
her intent is clear, then I can guess and follow most of her choices.
But tonight, in front of an audience, she actually ad-libbed. So I was
feeling like any moments of accurate lipsync were an accident.

Right- off to bed. Anyone in the Portland, OR area should come see this
show. The cast is really good. We run through March 18th. Have I
already asked, what was I thinking?
