Hi everyone,

Converting NTSC/VHS to PAL is generally an outrageously expensive
proposition here in the states...(at least at the commercial transfer
houses here in Los Angeles and other big cities)

On my most recent visit to the UK (August 99)
I was surprised and delighted to discover that many of the British VCR's
will play both PAL and NTSC!..... I'm not speaking of a high-end,
high-priced item either.
I Purchased a JVC VCR for 120 GBP ( approx. $200) . Here in the states,
there is only one commercial VCR available that will play both formats
and that's priced close to $800.

Considering it could cost you almost $100 to convert 3 hours of NTSC
tape to PAL, it would certainly warrant checking into the puchase of a
British made VCR. One would only need to get a $25 power adapter from
Radio Shack for U.S. current.

Another option would be to search the classified ads in video and film
collecting magazines...
there are always individuals who offer transfers for a fair price.

                            Peace,
                       Steve Weber
