Hi Conrad and all,

Here is the traditional method for prepping and coloring split doe
skin or chamois eyelids and mouth joins:

First, mink oil or a similar leather softener is rubbed liberally into
the rough side of the leather until it is thoroughly saturated. Allow
the leather to stand for a few hours. The smooth side of the leather is
now ready to be painted with artists oil colours applied in several
thinned coats..(use a few drops of pure gum turpentine mixed together
with boiled linseed oil.

When the paint is dry, it and the leather will remain supple and
flexible for many, many years.

                          Cheers,

                      Steve Weber
