I've found a cheap option for materials -- cotton, polyester, felt, etc -- is to blend acrylic colour with wallpaper paste. But you need to spray it when dry with either fixative or hairspray. I use this technique stencilling for banners. (This approach is suggested by Welfare Sate International.) When painting the flexible masks I make (from commercial felt), I simply blend PVA -- white woodworking/craft -- glue with acrylic colour. It will flex and give you a plasticated texture. I also obtain good results by overlaying and polishing features with neutral or light tan/coloured shoe polish which I settle and buff up with liquid floor polish. You can blend show polishes and/or floor polishes (esp the liquid kind) with acrylic colour too. [Thanks so much for all those who helped me out with the Variform query. Inquiries are proceeding.] Dave Riley _______________ THE MASK STUDIO dhell-AT-ozemail.com.au http://www.ozemail.com.au/~dhell/mask.htm PO Box 103 Northgate Qld.
