Date: Sat, 10 Jun 2000 09:27:29 -0400 (EDT) From: John Bell <jb44-AT-is3.nyu.edu> Subject: PUPT: Query: the Lauer Sisters Here is a question connected to the book I am writing about the McPharlin puppet collection at Detroit Insitute of Arts: is anyone familiar with the Lauer Sisters, who performed marionettes, probably in nightclub or cabaret settings, probably in the 1930s or forties? The puppets in Detroit include Greta Garbo on roller skates (!), a seal puppet, "Margo the Ballerina," and portrait puppets of the three Lauer sisters themselves, with rather startling flip-up African-American "Mammy" masks. Any help with this would be appreciated, as I have no other information on the sisters. Thanks for your attention!
