Subject: PUPT: Query: the Lauer Sisters

Here is a question connected to the book I am writing about the McPharlin
puppet collection at Detroit Insitute of Arts: is anyone familiar with the
Lauer Sisters, who performed marionettes, probably in nightclub or cabaret
settings, probably in the 1930s or forties? The puppets in Detroit include
Greta Garbo on roller skates (!), a seal puppet, "Margo the Ballerina," and
portrait puppets of the three Lauer sisters themselves, with rather
startling flip-up African-American "Mammy" masks.

Any help with this would be appreciated, as I have no other information on
the sisters.

Thanks for your attention!
