For those who haven't already subscribed, Dave Riley's email list has been 
going over aspects of the mask/puppet question since last summer. Contact 
him at http://www.ozemail.com.au/~dhell/mask.htm to join the list. As Dr. 
John notes, the only practical way to distinguish between a mask or a puppet 
is how they are used. An actor behind a puppet may be treating it as a mask. 
  An actor interacting with his mask may be treating it as an seperate 
object, possibly a puppet.
