I would add that burning, destroying, or collapsing giant figures has long 
functioned as the climax of pageants created by Bread and Puppet Theater, 
and that the connections of this kind of action go back to Ram Lila in 
India, carnival in Basel (Switzerland), ritual mask performance in Korea, etc.
