Definitely a good way to go. The main negative thing about this, is the
foam tends to absorb sweat. So, if you can, try to design the head so that
the foam is totally encased in fabric. This way, it can be washed well.
Many McCalls costume patterns use this principal, they don't even glue the
foam... just sew the sections into a fabric casing, and it is the fabric
that gets sewn together.

Also, work VERY hard to give the wearer good vision of their own feet, and
a bit ahead of the feet. To keep costs down for one Elementary school, I
just made the head, and found a McCalls pattern for the jumpsuit-type body.
I provided the fur, and some volunteers sewed the rest. But, in your case
the majority of the costume can really just be regular type clothes. A pig
with a mostly human shaped body is a lot easier (and cheaper) to make than a
more elaborate body. Perhaps a little padding in the waist or stomach.
But, this task might be able to be done by someone other than you... They
may have a volunteer who can sew well. This way they only need to pay the
professional for the head.
