Subject: PUPT: Basil Twist's PETRUSHKA


Dear Puppeteers-

For anyone in the Kalamazoo, Michigan, New Haven, CT or Becket, Massachusetts 
areas, Basil Twist's , "Petrushka" which received an UNIMA Citation of 
Excellence last year, will appear in you areas this spring/summer.  I have 
enclosed more information below.  Hope you will join us at a performance.

"Petrushka"

The magic of Stravinsky's powerful music comes alive in this fantastic  
re-imagining of Petrushka, conceived and directed by Basil Twist, set for two 
pianos and performed by the award-winning two-piano team of Julia and Irina  
Elkina.  Petrushka is the story of a puppet, his need for love, and his 
suffering over this enslaved "puppet" condition.  In Twist’s presentation of 
these magical, enchanted characters and this fatal love triangle, Petrushka, 
The Ballerina and The Moor emerge from the swirl of a Russian Carnival imbued 
with all the emotions and passions that humans posses, especially Petrushka.  


Co-commissioned by Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, The Walker Arts 
Center and The Irving S. Gilmore International Festival.
