My dad plays the musical saw.  He's actually played with the North
Carolina Symphony, twice.  So he must be fairly decent or they wouldn't
have invited him back.

What you are looking for is the length and taper of the saw.  A saw that
has a curve in the untoothed side won't resonate properly.  Dad has a
Sears musical saw, but doesn't like it as well as another he has. The
way he chooses saws is by taking a bow or rubber mallet and heading down
to the hardware store.
