So he must be fairly decent or they wouldn't have invited him back. What you are looking for is the length and taper of the saw. A saw that has a curve in the untoothed side won't resonate properly. Dad has a Sears musical saw, but doesn't like it as well as another he has. The way he chooses saws is by taking a bow or rubber mallet and heading down to the hardware store.
