You could have it as large as you need, and could make it a little more realistic than might other wise be possible. Either that, or you would have to have four or five people to operate a stick version, One at each leg, maybe one for the head. If you are on a budget, you may want to try to go with something a little more representational than realistic. It mostly depends on what the set designer and director are looking for.
