H'mm....suppose it depends on what you're prepared to put up with. I've
been, among other things, a pro musician for 30-odd years, and in my
experience you definitely get what you pay for. If you want 15 watts of
noise & distortion with 5 watts of sound, then fine, go for Radio Shack
(yes, I have tried it, and tossed in it the bin years ago); personally I'd
prefer to go for decent pro-quality equipment with a good signal-to-noise
ratio, low THD figures and decent quality build & components; and 20 watts
is WAY too little for anything like a reasonable sound - you've simply got
no headroom. And nobody has mentioned the importance of speakers - power
handling (true RMS, not "music power" or any other meaningless c**p),
sensitivity and general build quality. Personally I love ElectroVoice
speakers. Mics - cheap ones pretty much sound cheap; most decent makes
offer a budget range which will do a good job - Shure, AKG, Beyer for
instance, and if you go wireless you should go for UHF rather than cheapo
VHF, which will interact with all sorts of things and give you constant
grief. Look at AKG for a decently-priced UHF system. I could go on at MUCH
greater length, but I'll spare you..............

. but by all means AVOID RADIO SHACK AT ALL COSTS.
because in the end it'll cost ya.
You know I hear people give this warning all the time but the ones who do
for the most part have never tried Radio Shack. I have used their PA systems
for over 30 years without a single problem. Please give details when you
cut down a whole brand. I do shows almost every weekend during the summer
for festivals and fairs and do three to four shows a day. I use a 20 watt
Radio Shack amp model MPA-40 along with a Radio Shack wireless headset mike
total cost when bought on sale less then $300 and have, had no problems at
all.
