Subject: PUPT: A moment in the life of a Howdy Doody fan


I had a conversation today that I thought some of you might appreciate--

A gentleman named Mike was just telling me how his brother and he went to see 
the Howdy Doody Show when they were kids. Actually the little brother was the 
fan at age seven; by then Mike was already 17. Then after the show, as I 
understand it, they went backstage, and by great bad luck came upon the star, 
who only minutes before had been bouncing on the stage, sprawled out lifeless 
backstage. After a moment of blank horror, the boy let out a primal scream. 
To this day, he never talks about it.
