That'll teach `em! :-) Andrew Young (admitted cellphobic) ----- Original Message ----- From: <Wayong-AT-aol.com> To: <puptcrit-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu> Sent: Monday, June 10, 2002 9:35 PM Subject: Re: PUPT: New pet peeve > There is a way to deal with this. Some performers and theatres make an announcement that all pagers, cell phones & alarms are to be turned off prior to performance. The audience is often warned that the perpertrator will be ridiculed public (in a half joking tone of course, but it gets the point) if a alarm or phone goes off. People today are often unaware what is considered theatre etiquette & just need to be politefully reminded & embarrassed if they continue. There's nothing wrong with stating the 'rules of theatre' before a performance - kids can't be expected to know & many adults aren't theatre savvy. > > I have to say cafes are different. I expect people to talk loudly to each other or on the phone otherwise I wouldn't go. If it distracts me in my work, I bring a cd walkperson to listen to. Sometimes I'm expecting a phone call from someone long distance or related to a contract job. I focus better in a cafe & can't be sitting home all day waiting for a call. > Some cafes have an issue towards cell phones due radiation. They just put a sign up asking people to step outside if they get a call. > > Wayong > > > --- Personal replies to: Wayong-AT-aol.com > --- List replies to: puptcrit-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu > --- Admin commands to: majordomo-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu > --- Archives at: http://lists.village.virginia.edu/~spoons > --- Personal replies to: "Andrew Young" <omlemedia-AT-omlemedia.com> --- List replies to: puptcrit-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu --- Admin commands to: majordomo-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu --- Archives at: http://lists.village.virginia.edu/~spoons
