I know a costume performer who used to do Barney for promotional appearances
in Canada. She was attacked once by teens and would have been seriously hurt
were it not for fast-acting security guard. To this day she doesn't like to
wear purple (true story). I've heard similar stories from friends who do
many of the "live" versions of popular children's TV shows. A puppeteer I
know in NY is regularly "attacked" by children hopped up on sugar and happy
meals at his mall shows.

Puppetry - it's not for wimps!
