Subject: PUPT: S.A.A.P. Redux Date: Sat, 15 Jun 2002 16:34:09 -0400 We assume Jeff's motives are largely self-promotional. We'll know more about what he's rally up to July 9th. The problem is that the media would just as soon promote his nonsense as representing puppetry as pay attention to the increasingly sophisticated use of puppetry by several local cutting-edge theatre companies, to reviewing puppet events as more than incidental children's entertainment - which is usually not taken seriously either, and to appreciating variety arts in general. And yes, unruly kids can be a problem, but they come with the territory No "legislation" or phony crusade will do as much as performer preparation. We've had Boston Area Guild programs in the past about dealing with audiences and avoiding problems. The general rule is "get them on your side", and satisfy the kids needs. Just make sure they don't "attack" someone else instead. It's not fair to incite them to "go bother the mime." "That's the way to do it!" _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx --- Personal replies to: "will stackman" <profwill66-AT-hotmail.com> --- List replies to: puptcrit-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu --- Admin commands to: majordomo-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu --- Archives at: http://lists.village.virginia.edu/~spoons
