Kurt...., thanks for you input and the kind words. Much appreciated!

Although the publication was originally aimed at building pro vent
figures, many puppeteers have found the info very useful as well as it
gets into a lot of detail on sculpting, mold making, casting, animations,
etc. that uses techniques and materials that can work well in building
many types of puppets.

Thanks again to all for such a nice response and your helpfulness in this
matter.

Cheers,

Mike Brose

I've been down about the same road that Michael has with my own book. My
book, "Puppets, Kids, and Christian Education" came out last August. I
gave a copy to Jeanine Bartelt, mostly as a token of thanks for the
incredible job that she did as director of The Puppetry Store, but partly
as a review copy to get it into the store.

It didn't make it into the store before the new director took over, so I
sent a review copy to the new director. When I finally got a hold of
her, she was a few days away from going into the hospital for a
c-section. She was already overwhelmed with the work load of The
Puppetry Store and that was before she had a new baby to deal with too.

I also gave a copy to the the person who reviewed it for The Puppetry
Journal, after the fact though because she had already bought a copy, but
wanted another for a friend.

On a side note, Michael's book "Figure Making Can Be Fun?!? A complete
guide to making a 'professional ventriloquist figure'" is wonderful. I
found it on his web site ( http://puppetsnprops.homestead.com/home.html )
back in December and talked someone into getting it for me for Christmas.

On the topic of The Puppetry Store, I was one of its defenders, when
Puppethead first raised the questions and my opinions haven't changed.
Puppethead certainly isn't the first one to raise the questions and he
(she?) won't be the last. Anyway, here's my opinion in a nutshell:

- The Puppetry Store is one of only two spots on the net where you can
see all of what is available for puppetry books (Ray DaSilva is the
other) in one place. If you don't know what books are available, the
used book searches don't do much good.
- The Puppetry Store supplies books to regional and local puppetry events
around the country. Regional festivals and local guild Day's of Puppetry
make great use of having books that are shipped from The Puppetry Store
available for sale at events. Because of the current transition with The
Puppetry Store this resource isn't available at the regional festivals
this summer. At the Great Plains Regional Festival, it was greatly
missed.
- If The Puppetry Store is having problems it is because it is such a
greatly used resource that the store director is overworked. If no one
was buying books from The Puppetry Store we wouldn't have lost the last
store director.

Okay, that's my store and I'm sticking with it.
