OK, imagine Groucho glasses with a nose attached. I would
sculpt a mask in plastilena and cast it in paper mache.
Design around the glasses. The cut lines gracefully follow
the cheekbone. So you have a mask that covers
the central part of your face but exposes your mouth,
like a commedia mask. You can build any kind of teeth onto the mask.
I would usually wear a hat, wig, make-up to complete
the character, and highlight the eyelids to match.
The mask, of course, stays on the face held by flesh-coloured
elastic. The result is a character who wears glasses
and the glasses don't look out of place. Also, I've
invested in a variety of prescription character frames
for different occasions. Often I just wear a character
nose plus makeup, it's enough.
