Hi MM et al,

Thanks for reminding us about the de Tocqueville book, which I've been
meaning to read for a long while. A few years ago my public library in
Cambridge, MA (home of Harvard and MIT and many of their professors and
allumni) did a survey of the books that their readers felt should be read by
everyone, and Democracy in America was very high on the list (if not at the
top).

It's off-topic, but I think a similar, more modern (but not quite
contemporary) book that deserves a look is Jane Jacobs' The Death and Life
of Great American Cities. It's tough reading, but worth the work for anyone
who cherishes cities. That too ranked high on the list.

Happy summer to all!

Karen Larsen
