Back when I was cutting capers with mummers and English ritual dancers we used to do the horn dance. It was billed as the oldest surviving remnant of animism from that part of the world . This brings to mind a post from a couple of months ago when someone was inquiring about ritual, magic, etc. in puppetry. I was hoping to see some responses to that inquiry, but the thread seemed to stall on the starting line. Attempting to give it a little push, I'll frame it in a more specific context. A few years ago Nancy Lohman Staub helped set up an exhibit at the Smithsonian dealing with the spiritual or ritual use of sacred objects/puppets around the world. Unfortunately, not all of us were able to attend. Anybody know whether the information presented there was documented? Is there a book, an article, a video? And is that research being carried on? -Grego --- Personal replies to: Grego <grego-AT-gregoland.com> --- List replies to: puptcrit-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu --- Admin commands to: majordomo-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu --- Archives at: http://lists.village.virginia.edu/~spoons
