We were near capacity Friday night, and sold out Saturday night, with people truly worried that they might not get in, and our staff scurrying around digging up more chairs. We had great publicity, which we paid very little for. The Arizona Republic noted the event on the front page Thursday, with an article and picture in the "Living" section. Both of the entertainment rags noted it, one with an article, and America On-Line highlighted it on their "Things to Do in Your City" section. We also had stuffers in the downtown artists gallery mailing that goes out once a month, fliers in some of the galleries, article in our newsletter, and an Adult Puppetry e-mail list. The audience was an unexpected mix of artistic types and very straight looking people of all ages, even sweet looking grey-haired ladies. No one tried to bring a child. Or asked for their money back. Our program ended up being all humor, and probably running too long. These are things we'll fix next time. We have more events planned in the spring. Next time we probably won't get as good publicity from the newspaper - front page! But the best news is, adults came full of anticipation. Puppets for Adults? Oh, yeah.
