It is a fine show, one of the best of its kind (and there were lots of these
in England in the 60's!). The puppets are indeed marionettes on very fine
wires; the show was filmed with a technique called Supermarionation, where a
prerecorded audio track was electronically linked to the mouth controllers
for perfect synching. At the end of this series, the engineers reduced
the size of the voice-control mechanism and their later shows ("Captain
Scarlet", and "The Secret Service" - the former is available on dvd here)
use more realistically-proportioned puppets to interesting effect.
