Subject: Re: PUPT: puppetry of the penis

Andrew-
Please don't misunderstand me...of course they cannot be compared in terms of quality, no arguement there! Puppetry of the Penis is like "Jackass: the movie" compared to, say, "Life is Beautiful." I am a big fan of Hugo and Inez and even wrote about my admiration of their work in a review of their Henson Festival run in the Puppetry Journal several years ago. I DO think that POP is puppetry, but in a more global way - it's like seeing stand-up comedy as opposed to going to see a play, and calling it "going to see a show." The content certainly lacks depth and drama and the audience investment is conscequently quite "surfacy". It is a shame that the word "puppetry" is attatched to their title, as I think it does tarnish the reputation of high quality puppetry work.
I agree that POP doesn't deserve a big discussion, however...so I will end there.
Best,
Serra
