Subject: Re: PUPT: advice

Um, no insurance on my part for the past couple of years.
I'm hoping to find a job that at least gives me partial benefits of an HMO the following years.

Just alot of prayer & magick & hopes that I remain relatively healthy. I looked into (originally) COBRA right after I left one of my jobs & later into independent insurance. The cheapest was several hundred dollars a month, which is WAY
too expensive for me. Besides, during the time I had an HMO, I found I was basically paying the bloodworkup & the doctor writing me a note saying I was breathing & able to work.
I've had one doctor look at his watch during the 10 minutes
we met & say, 'I know I really should do an EKG considering your medical history, but I have to go.' Seriously!

I've been misdiagnosed several times (one doctor who must have fell asleep during gross anatomy class), been forced to stay in a hospital against my will & almost had 2 surgeries
that were completely unnecessary & dangerous. And once took medication that almost killed me (from a doctor who should have done a differential diagnosis)...
so if I was to pay out of pocket, I would seek alternative
medicine, personally. If I had kids, I don't know what I would do.

Being on both sides of the fence - client/patient & a clinician, I'm not a fan of Managed Uncare. I'm waiting for the day for decent socialised medicine. I'll be waiting for a long time.
