Here is something that I think that some of you might want to check out. Have been part of the Arts Festival for a number of years and can vouch for the high quality of all things connected with the Festival. The director, Phil Waltz, is VERY interested in puppetry as an art for and hope, sometime in the very near future, to be more visible in promoting puppetry in general: performances, workshops, hopefully help host a P of A festival, etc. This is a opening 'baby step'. If interested contact Phil - hope to see some of you there this summer.

Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts
2003 Puppeteers Conference, July 9-10

In celebration of the CPFA's eleven years of creating processions and giant
puppets, we are excited to inaugurate a two-day puppeteers conference
designed to immerse the conferee in the art and joy of puppets as social
expression. Featuring nationally and regionally known puppet masters
including: National Marionette Theatre's David Syrotiak, Back Alley Puppet
Theatre's Sara Peattie, and The National Lint Guy Project's Cheryl Capezzuti
among others, the conference is keynoted by puppet authority and published
author Dr. John Bell. The conference includes the unveiling of a giant
puppet exhibit, welcoming reception, book signing, performances, artist
presentations and roundtables, opportunities for inclusion in a traditional
Grand Puppet Procession and Giant Puppet Pageant, and, most importantly, the
chance for the conferee to share and discuss her own puppet design ideas and
challenges. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own work for inclusion
in our Grand Procession and for the purposes of discussion with our guest
artists. Conference attendance is limited to assure a quality experience.
$250 per person inclusive of the conference registration, welcoming
reception, hospitality breaks, two (2) lunches, special late-night dinner,
complimentary parking at the Arts Festival Shuttle lot, and admission to
conference events. For further information and registration, please call
Phil Walz at #(814)-237-3682 or e-mail: pwalz-AT-arts-festival.com
