Subject: Re: PUPT: Puppetry or money

HA! My route is the other way around from many....I am an artist - who is
making a living as a puppeteer. -meaning that puppetry is my "day job" and I
really do like it - but I also paint, make art furniture and forms of nature
related art. And! what has happened is that my love of nature is becoming more
and more part of my puppetry. For example, I need to increase my income to pay
my mortagage, insurance etc - and the regular "Gerwick Puppet" business in
schools is down a bit. I live in an affluent area that craves "princesses" at
birthday parties. so I am making a new cinderella birthday show that is about a
woodland princess who lives in an ancient tree- which I am constructing out
of paper mache - like my furniture - and it will have a subtle environmental
message. and lots of princessy dresses - to suit the four year old ! (and
because its a show that they are really seeking out, I will charge more - and
they can afford it) - As for my "art": the sculpture/furniture part - I would
not be creating something just to sell it....
