It is my humble opinion that what ever we call a puppetry style it will still be puppetry and in time lessened by the public at large and mitigated to children performance. Therefore, I (once again and with much humility) suggest that we actively go after names that we would like to change for social reasons. Weapons of Mass Destruction are scare words now but in time would become something for two year olds and the feeble minded. "Oh ya, I liked WMD's when I was 4, but now I'm all grown up and think they're dumb." Terrorists would not be nearly as terrifying if you visualized a 20 pound puppet strapped to each hand or some one attempting to light fuzzy slippers on fire. Windows XP, 98, 03 et al, would become a positively delightful experience for every one when done outside as a Punch and Judy show. Certainly there would be problems, such as a copyright encryption program, having to license for each member of the audience, the occasional crash (although XP has proven stable) and inevitable restart, the "I've found a new program, hardware, problem" message that pops up, the elevndemillion security updates, the incompatible hardware that (*$! XP doesn't recognize and the fact that XP is simply not as much fun as Linux or Mac OS X. But all of those problems would disolve if wrapped with a nice puppet. Here's a brief list of other concepts and words that puppeteers can co-opt. Cheese, New York, CEO, IPA, IRA, Television, vox populi, Tom Green, Presidential Candidate, Anthrax, Pudding, Democratic Party, California. Sorry, Bush (as in the president) has already been co-opted, but the list can go on and on, preferably on another newsgroup. In my vast 6 minutes of searching the Internet for new and exciting names for marionettist I came upon these: (Dutch) koord trekker and générateur de fromage (French). I am also for string monger, tangle master, Supermarination and a live action remake of "Captain Scarlett and the Mysterons" or "Thunderbirds are Go". Admittedly, I made up koord trekker (Dutch) and générateur de fromage (French). I am also for string monger, tangle master but I did use an on-line translation service to make them into something exotic sounding. So, there you have it. Two minutes of your life and Internet bandwidth wasted. Yours, with humility, Tim Il Teatro Calamari www.teatrocalamari.com __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
