If you want to support a NFP, donating a show that you normally charge $500 for (for example) is exactly the same as donating $500 and getting a tax deduction and then doing a show for $500, for which you pay taxes. It's a wash. In both cases, your direct expenses (travel, food, etc) are also deductible, which remains the only tax benefit. The problem is that we get so many calls from non-profits that we can't support them all. So I agree with your basic premise that one shouldn't be taken in by a non-profit's plea of poverty. It might or might not be true, but we shouldn't feel obligated to support any non-profit that calls asking for a free or reduced rate show Peter --- Personal replies to: Peter Kronenberg <pak-AT-carouselpuppets.com> --- List replies to: puptcrit-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu --- Admin commands to: majordomo-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu --- Archives at: http://lists.village.virginia.edu/~spoons
