Subject: PUPT: a student of puppetry wants to know

Hi everyone,

My name is Laura. I'm new to this list, and I hope I don't ask too many
annoying questions. Forgive my ignorance of past topics, please.

I am just finishing up my bachelor's in Theatre Craft, and am looking to get
into a serious puppetry program for my master's. I have founds lots of
schools that offer this program, but I don't know which one to pick. What are your
opinions, if any, on degree offering programs such as CALARTS, University of
Connecticut, University of Hawaii and West Virginia? How about any opinions on
international schools?

My main focus is design, construction and technology rather than performance.
One day I hope to be the "Mercedes-maker of puppets" as I heard Steve
Whitmire say that once about someone at a puppetry convention. I'm also interested
in stop motion animation puppets (but not clay).

Any opinions or tips would be greatly appreciated. I will have to pick a
school by about February.

Thanks so much,

Laura
