Subject: Re: PUPT: sound ideas

I am a usually solo performer and have been using the same system to add
music to my shows for many years, which is simplistic, but generally reliable. I
have a good quality, strong PA system and speakers, and audiotechnica wireless
mic system, but for the music, I use a cassette deck I only can find at Radio
Shack. It is a sort of flat shoebox size cassette player, with an audio remote
connector hole (the important part). This allows me to plug in an on/off foot
switch, which runs through the pause, rather than stop, function, and does
not make that "clunk" sound when I turn the music off and on for scenes. I just
have to remember to turn it off and on when needed, but that becomes habit,
along with all the other necessary multi-tasking - you know what I mean. It is
worth getting the extra warranty on the deck, then, when it is near the
expiration, you can get a new one. I got the foot switch housing from a music store,
I think, but have replaced the switch itself with Radio Shack parts, which
work fine. I velcro the switch to an approx. 10"x10" piece of thin particle
board, to keep it upright in case it gets kicked.
Good Luck
Karen
