I have one of these units and have used it for shadow shows (cool effects
and great colors and crisp shadows) and projections. It is a computer
controlling unit (the processor is built into the little controller unit)
and allows you to change slides manually at any dissolve rate you want or to
record the tones to change onto a cassette (they won't be audible to the
audience). I have had the unit for about 15 years and as I recall, it was
expensive. It works with 2 (or more) kodak Ectographic slide projectors (the
kind with the right kind of accessory jack.) You can also use it with one
projector but then get no dissolve, just a fade off, change slide, and fade
on again. It is its own system and I doubt it would connect easily to a
computer for editing, although you might be able to run it into a computer
just like you would a cassette...then you would have to assign the tones to
an audio track that you would not hear when you play it back, but instead
that track would be sent to the controller unit (which is necessary for
playback as well as programming). My unit was made by a local company who
may or may not still be in business. I suggest you try a local camera store
and see what they suggest. In addition, I would not be surprised if they now
have units that work directly from a pc. Another alternative to consider is
a multimedia projector that can be controlled directly from a pc or
laptop...more expensive (starting around $1000.00) but maybe not if you
consider buying the controller, the projectors and lenses, and then
developing all of your slides...) but you might be able to borrow a multi
media projector as they are more common than the slide projector
controllers. One thing to consider with the slide projectors is that you
will have one or two projectors that have noisy fans (needed to cool the
light bulb) and a carousel slide changer mechanism that makes a fair amount
of noise...

To be honest, as we always did our voices and music live with the unit, I
have never tried recording the tones onto cassette. Our use requires a human
to push the button each time we make a dissolve

Hope this is helpful
Michael Nelson
