Subject: Re: PUPT: Training

I agree with Dave's comments that "acting training" would only improve one's
puppetry options and performances. I think that "acting"shoud be included in
the workshop offerings at Puppet Festivals. When I suggested it I was told
that puppeteers don't want acting classes and second "who would teach it?" .
neither are particularly solid reasons not to do it, but I do believe that it is
so important that good instructors should be sought out and an acting
component should be added to festivals. -just as a start into that important
element. So, perhaps when/if I am ever on the workshop committee for a festival I
could put my money where my mouth is and make that hapapen.
For myself, the acting has evolved and now I do a little part time work doing
voice-overs. I have a huge repertory of character voices in my head and am
good at interpreting lines and reading and enunciating well - so I don't have to
do many "takes." (My current voices are on the Verizon web site - at
Superthinkers.com -the Peetnick Mysteries. I play Penn Peetnik and many other female
characters. It sure is fun and pays well too!) In this business of being a
puppeteer, diversity helps!
