I think that most theatre organizations in Canada (possibly because their are fewer and most are fairly grass-roots) are good at recognizing quality puppet theatre. Here in Toronto the DORA awards (which are a big deal in Canada) have recognized Ronnie Burkett and nominated Puppetmongers in recent years.

The only problem I see with esthablishing a separate award on Broadway (the Tonys?) is that in most years there isn't enough puppet theatre *on Broadway* to justify a separate category.

This kind of reminds me of the debate over whether or not the Oscars should create a separate category for Best Animated Feature.
