From: Jimsan777-AT-aol.com Date: Fri, 6 Feb 2004 22:59:07 EST Subject: PUPT: Gamble in Hong Kong Greetings: Just an update. I've completed a couple of days in my tour and the audiences here are delightful! My last tour to Hong Kong was in 1998 and many children then did NOT understand English. What a difference a few years make!!...Now virtually every child knows and understands English as long as you speak slowly and clearly. Shows are going great! Met a number of puppeteers last night from Shanghai (reviewing my performance no doubt) Now, seems there will be a UNIMA Fest in Shanghai next year to which I have been invited. For those or you who really want to tour abroad, be sure to concentrate on a "visual" show as opposed to a "talky" one. I've been seriously studying languages...Japanese, Italian, Spanish, etc. since 1988 for performances and it does pay off to enhance the value of your program. Upcoming tours to Bolivia, Russia, Croatia and Montenegro are in the offing. The discussions on travel trunks were right on. My 62 inch boxes have come through after 7 trips abroad with NO DAMAGE. I cannot say that for my former larger boxes. And keep them packed under 50 pounds!
