Subject: PUPT: Puppetry awards/Europe

Awards:

For almost all European Festivals in which I have participated, there has
been an official jury who decides on the awards: Jurists are film and
theater directors, producers, managers of large theatrical and dance
companies....they are not made up of artists and puppeteers (at least not a large
percentage.) Juries meet every evning after the performances to discuss the
performances.
From what I can the jury decides the basis for an award: Acting
Brilliance, Best manipulation, best staging, etc., etc. The categories are not defined
in advance. Most everyone agrees with the jury's decision, although there is
always speculation and discussion. Some times no awards are given during the
entire festival because "no program measured up to the expectation of the
jury." Jury members number 15-20 and are usually well-respected.
For those of you who have participated, what has been your experience?
