Thanks for the sound ideas thus far! I met the Ruggs last year at the NE
Regional; he had bought a DJ tape deck that had the auto stop, then he had
to rewire it to the doorbell button that Heidi uses. Gee, they can explore
Mars, but not make a handy dandy machine all ready to go for an
electronically inept puppeteer such as me!!! Oh well.

I have used the tape player with a Radio Shack on/off remote - as long as
the music is not too repetitious and I can tell easily when to pause it, it
works pretty well. Sometimes I get a loud snap in the speakers though when
it goes on and off. And there is the issue of pressing the right button in
the dark. Using a pause does not create the snap. I like your idea with
the extension cord with the on/off. I've also looked into using a looping
machine that musicians use to create electronic loops while playing. You
can program in up to 10 mins of music/sound and it works with a foot pedal,
but there are buttons for each loop which can be numbered up to about 20
different loops. But it costs about $600, then there is the learning curve
and taking the time to read how to use it and figure it out. and still more
buttons in the dark. But if you know a hot electric guitarist, they'd
probably tell you more about it.

Diane
