Subject: PUPT: shameless self promotion in the washington/baltimore area


Hello Critters!
 
I'm a long time lurker and first time poster...and, embarrassingly, I'm going to begin my tenure with a little shameless self promotion!
 
For those of you who don't know me, I'm Katie George--UConn Alum and Center for Puppetry Arts veteran...among other things.  Currently, my puppetry journey has taken my to the library world (where I am working to raise the bar for library puppetry).  But I digress....
 
Through the Howard County Library, I'm hosting a Puppetry in the Cinema mini film festival over the next three Monday nights (March 29, April 5, & April 12) from 7 to 9 pm.  If you happen to be in the greater Washington/Baltimore Metropolitan Area stop by!  We'll be viewing:
 
(March 29)  Lotte Reiniger's The Frog Prince and selections of Richard Bradshaw's shadow puppetry.  (Lotte Reiniger committed her intricate shadow puppets to film in the 1920's and is recognized as one of the pioneers of animation.  Australian, Richard Bradshaw is famous for his short, witty scenarios and, of course, Super-kangaroo!)
 
(April 5)  Fool's Fire by Julie Taymor and The Tell-Tale Heart by Puphedz.  (Julie Taymor, most recognized for her puppets in The Lion King on Broadway, retells Edgar Allen Poe's "Hop-Frog".  Pupphedz presents Poe's story with kitschy rod puppets and just a touch of gore.)
 
(April 12)  The Dark Crystal (by popular demand...need I say more?)
 
Location:  East Columbia Branch, Howard County Library, 6600 Cradlerock Way, Columbia, MD  21045
 
Directions:  From interstate 95, take rte. 32 west towards Columbia to the Brokenland Parkway exit (towards Owen Brown).  Make a right at the second Cradlerock Way.  The library will be a brick and glass building trimmed in red, yellow, and blue on your right.  (Or call 410-313-7730)
