From: "Steve Axtell" <steve-AT-axtell.com> Subject: PUPT: Bird Puppet ideas Date: Thu, 25 Mar 2004 15:03:33 -0800 I thought I'd share this idea for those of you who work with our bird puppets. Many of you bring out your bird sitting on the bird arm during your show. Here's an idea that would let your bird fly around the audience prior to your putting him on the arm and going into the routine. 1. Announce that you are getting out a wild bird 2. Hesitantly open the lid to the trunk 3. Talk to the bird camly "stay, stay...." 4. As the bird takes off flying....run after him with a big net trying to catch him 5. Chase him back into the case 6. Come out with him on the arm for the rest of the routine Here's how you might rig it. Get a large fish Net with a rigid handle. It would best measure around 3-4 feet long. Attach a strong wire rig to it in the area between the handle and the hoop leading out front to hold the bird Cover the extended wire with some foam around it to fill up the bird puppet. Slip the bird puppet over the foam and wire rig Now chase the bird around by holding the handle of the net! It's kind of like a walk around gag with a rigid leash and a fake animal or the "invisable dog" leash concept. Enjoy!
