I was hoping you may have some idea, Johnny Carson that's a great puppet to have! This Margaret Thatcher was one of the last ones they made, I think it was referred to as "Mad Maggie" after she had resigned as Prime Minister. I think its great, but my 22 month old daughter can't stand it so it may well be hidden in the dark! You mention protecting it with Armor is that a term of speech or a product? Being from the UK I haven't heard of that before. Thanks again, Michael. ----- Original Message ----- From: Steve Axtell To: michael-AT-michaeljdixon.com Sent: Thursday, March 25, 2004 3:31 PM Subject: Re: PUPT: Preserving a Latex Puppet Michael, Congrats! I have one too....Johnny Carson. As you know Margaret Thacher is the pinacle of a SI collection. It was just fantastic work. The foam latex will eventually break down but there are a few things you can do. The enemies are UV light and Ozone. Protecting it with Armor all every 3 months will guard against that. Also I have decided to display mine rather than keep it covered from the light. Your choice. It will last longer in the dark in it's weakened condition. Foam latex is more fragile than slip latex like we use to make Axtell puppets. I have recently had the oppurtunity to acquire a Spitting Image puppet, Margaret Thatcher no less, anyway although she is in excellent condition she is starting to show a few cracks (this is the puppet not the real Maggie) and I would like to try and ensure this doesn't get any worse in the future. Does anyone know of a good way to preserve latex such as this? Any help would be really appreciated! Thanks in advance.
