Ooops, should have prefaced that last post with a more detailed explanation.
"Blog" is short for "web log" which is basically an online journal. Some
people maintain individual ones as part of their site (like me) and other
people join large blogging communities (like Livejournal or Blogger).

Here's trusty Professor Google's definition:

Blog -- (weB LOG) - A blog is basically a journal that is available on the
web. The activity of updating a blog is "blogging" and someone who keeps a
blog is a "blogger." Blogs are typically updated daily using software that
allows people with little or no technical background to update and maintain
the blog. Postings on a blog are almost always arranged in chronological
order with the most recent additions featured most prominently.

Some people just use HTML to keep a blog manually on a web page, but most
are done using programs that generate RSS feeds (each of the major blog
sites has their own). RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication" and is an
XML (eXtensible Markup Language) data format that allows different Internet
sources like blogs to exchange information or "syndicate it" over the
Internet. An "RSS Feed" allows a content source on the Internet to be
delivered right to your desktop. Think about reading CNN without having to
go to cnn.com - that's what an RSS feed basically does for you.

They're actually really good tools for generating web site traffic and
communicating with other people through the web. They've been around since
the late 90s but have exploded in the last year. The media started paying
attention in the last year or so after Google bought out blogger.com and
Howard Dean used a large blogging community to help raise millions for his
Presidential bid. Even George Bush seems to be keeping a blog now.

I've gone on about this for far too long but if anyone really wants to know
more let me know.

- Andrew
