Have you looked around a hobby shop that specializes in trains?  They
have small tubing and "piano wire" (also called something else but that
escapes me right now)that come in lengths of 2-3 feet.  You could cut
them to size.  Be aware that piano wire is extremely hard to bend or cut
but it can be done.

Looking for some ideas on cable control for a project I'm working on.
What I'd like is for the cable to push rather than pull. Bicycle cable
is really too flexible it seems and works better for pulling. Camera
shutter cable, the throw is to short typically. I need something that
will move about 1 1/2" to 2". 

Thanks in advance for any suggestions you might have.
