   I think I would check out the remote control area of the Hobby Shop and 
see what they have. Some of the larger planes and cars may have cable 
control inside. You could use plastic tubing found at the larger home 
centers (Lowes or Home Depot) they usually have various sizes and then use 
brass or steel wire inside for the control.  Bike hand brakes may be of 
help as well.
