Again, I am saving the info for a time when I will be able too study these methods. My main problem is: I am self tought. I had NO formal education in sculpture. I studied painting and drawing. I have made three latex moulds in my life, and two were not as successful... I have made many one part plaster moulds of people's faces. I have made only one multiple-part plaster mould, and it was destroyed in the process of removing the more complex cast pieces (but the final piece was okay!!!) That mould was used to make Gregor, my devil hand puppet http://www.magma.ca/~uubald/gregor.html I intend to practice this one-step plaster mould until I perfect it. It works wonders with paper mache, without the need for a release agent (one layer of wet paper, no glue) Thank you Fred Thomson (Angusson) for giving me all the info I needed back then about that mould making process. So, I always try to sculpt my pieces directly, avoiding moulds. But I find that more and more I need precision and smoothness. As I am the busiest I've ever been, I find no time for research and developpements, and even less for sourcing materials. That is why I was asking for hardware store alternatives. I have no fear of learning complex new techniques, that is what thrills me the most. but right now, it just isn't feasible. I am studying puppetry simultaneaously with making a puppet show with two collegues, and have to be making my Halloween production of masks to sell. Gotta love being busy! Thanks for the info, keep em coming! Mathieu René Créaturiste Marionnettes, masques, etc...
