Subject: PUPT: FW: NYTimes.com Article: Coloring Mozart's World With Puppets


  It's interesting that the Times review of Taymor's Magic Flute is almost 
entirely negative: it's as if the presence of puppets themselves is just 
too much of a low-brow affront to the high state of opera.  Clearly the 
reviewer considers the spectacle nature of Taymor's designs to draw too 
much attention away from the music itself, although he admits that the 
production will probably draw audiences who normally don't attend the Met.
