Radhika,

I loved the words "intellectual bulimia/and anorexia"
such a powerful image.
In how many ways, do we shovel in words and thoughts
gorging on the junk, only to feel sick to our stomachs?
And then the frantic expelling, purging
feeling empty but still dirty.
So we starve ourselves like Jains
in search of that elusive purity of mind (and body?)
which is ourselves only.

And on a related note: These diseases are so deep-rooted in the excessive
excess of this society. They trickle down to "our" part of the world only
so far as the top where excess ever accumulates. To be seen in the area
where we have mastered the art of excess, as filmi heroines waste away to
skin and bones, making tautly muscled undernourished laborers seem
suddenly enviable--poster children of 24-fitness spas or Jenny Craig.

just some of the things the image brought to mind for me.
