struggling to narrate a 
story
from outside
the
cultural and religious faith that binds the narrative together

i realized 

without my mother's voice
and
her bhakti

there is no folklore in my heart
in my voice

i can
        not
tell those stories

to a certain extent perhaps a relief

the realization that it was not all "my choice"

to re
ject
to re
member

or to continue

to go on is what i do best

and the stories must be told by those who can translate the belief

to future generations...

i am not the bard that my mother is.

I do not sing with her emotion and belief.
