I'm delighted to announce that Routledge has just published Gloria E. Anzald=FAa's new book, Interviews/Entrevistas, (which I edited, arranged, & introduced). Spanning two decades, these interviews allow readers to follow the development of Anzald=FAa=92s writing career from the publication of This Bridge Called My Back, to Borderlands/La Frontera, to Making Face, Making Soul/Haciendo Caras, Friends from the Other Side/Amigos del otro lado, Prietita and the Ghost Woman/ Prietita y la Llorona, and beyond. Each of the interviews begins with brief discussions between Anzald=FAa and myself that revisit her earlier perspectives. In the interviews from the 1980's you=92ll find early formulations of ideas like la facultad; =92mita y =92mita; =93Tlapalli, the black and red ink=94 as the path of writing; lesbians=92 and gays=92 roles as mediators; and making face, making soul--ideas which later appeared in print. And in the interviews from the 1990's you=92ll read about Anzald=FAa=92s most recent concepts (like spiritual activism, conocimientos, nepantla) and her works in progress, which include a collection of short stories, a novel-in-stories, a writing manual, a book on theories and writing, a book of daily meditations, and a young-adult novel. Throughout the book Anzald=FAa provides extensive discussions of her motivations for writing and anthologizing, and gives us additional details about her writing process and her goals as a writer. Readers unfamiliar with Anzald=FAa=92s work will find useful summaries of her perspectives on This Bridge, Borderlands, and Haciendo Caras. Readers familiar with her writings will find new information as well, for the interviews contain insightful discussions of a number of issues and theories which Anzald=FAa has not yet put forth in published form. Here's what Angela Davis says about the book: "This impressive collection of interviews offers us a sustained look at Gloria Anzald=FAa's insistence on theorizing the personal and on infusing the political with the poetic--words that have shaped feminist theories and practices over the past two decades." And here's what Leslie Marmon Silko says: "Gloria Anzaldua's boundless generosity of spirit glows throughout these interviews. I especially enjoy her ideas about space/time and the nature of reality (or the many realities...)." It was an exciting project to work on, and I believe that readers will find it to be a valuable, useful book. (Of course, I'm pretty biased...) ********************** AnaLouise Keating English Department Aquinas College 1607 Robinson Rd., SE Grand Rapids, MI 49506 Office: 616/459-8281 x. 4468 Fax: 616/732-4487 Home: 616/954-6576 Email: zami-AT-mindspring.com "You must act as if it is impossible to fail."--Ashanti Proverb
