weren't

what I was thinking
about last night

but you never heard
my mind ticking

just the sunburned kids
crying, whining
the last night of vacation

the buzz of Daedalus flies

and the rains came
thunder heart, lightning mind

I didn't mean to turn
on the TV
but goddammit there was nothing
on in bed
but Insomnia and Six Feet Under

both pay-per-view

the drive back is silent
and eternal
without expectation
or desire

we've already been down this road
but I still can't figure it out

why the hell did I insist on driving?
