Talk about commodification! I will be seeing my publishers next month in
London and have started thinking very vaguely that maybe it might be fun
to have a series of books on, say, Communications, Culture and
Globalization. I have always felt that technology and
communications wwere as important as politics for culture.
Cyberspace, diasporas, postcolonialism, are our contemporary
version of hhow cultures hav always moved and influenced each other.
So what would I want in the series? Who would I ask to do books? Don't get
excited these projects often do not get far and take forever to get
started. But I would appreciate some ideas, intellectual imput, maybe even
some ideas about who would do books on what. Remember my own basic
interest is literature, English literature in its various nationalities
and sub or inter national divisions, followed by comparative lit, music,
films, etc. I really know nothing about media, communications, electonics
in any professional way. Bruce King
