Subject: introduction

For some reason, an intoroductory post I sent last night after subscribing
{ared
to the list has not appeared. So here's my introduction.
I'm Santiago colas, a third year assistant professor at the university
of michigan in Ann Arbor. I teach Latin Ameirican studies and critical
therory through the Department of Romance Languages and LIteratures and
the Program in Comparative LIteratures.
My interest in marxism dates to my PhD training undert he direction of
Fred Jameson at the literature program at Duke. I think I've diverged
{
somewhat successfully from Fred in certain ways, but I've certainly
reatained, and even elaborated--in the course of this grad seminar
on Marx (just Marx) which I taught in Comp lit here this year--itxx
a firm appreciation and interest in , at least, Marx. Together with
an interest in certain marxisms (principally CLR James, Antonio Negri).
at the same time, and also from my grad training, I've had an interest
in deleuze (with or without Gauattari). Oh yeah, the other marxism I've
stayed interested in is Althusser. Thus, these four poles of attraction,
beyond Marx himself, all obviously revolve in some way or another around
a certain understanding of Spinoza. Ergo, here I am, finally looking
to educate myself on this particular set of writings.

Looking forward to it,
